The Breakfast Battle- Jonathan Byrnes

Breakfast is probably the most challenging discussion to have. Everyone has different opinions about what to eat, and then others don't even eat breakfast. I don't understand how people can skip breakfast and then go through their day perfectly fine. First, I'd like to apologize to anyone who skips breakfast because this blog post most likely won't have anything to do with you. Anyways, I will probably offend some people with my next statement, but it has to be said. Waffles are the superior weekend breakfast option. There are many options for a weekend breakfast, such as pancakes, eggs, waffles, french toast, cereal, toast, etc. But there can only be one winner, and that winner is waffles.
Eggs are good to eat for breakfast on the weekend, but I would definitely say you can do better. Eggs are hearty and good for you, but why wouldn't you treat yourself with something a little unhealthier after making it through a long week. Eggs also need to be cooked right, and you can easily mess it up and ruin the entire breakfast. Cereal and Toast are an alright breakfast, but they would be better to eat during the weekdays. Both are kind of boring and aren't anything special and don't deserve the title as the best weekend breakfast. That being said, they are great if you are in a rush and don't have time to make something. A more popular breakfast item is french toast. A classic french toast seems like a great option, but when you get it, it is nothing special. I've had plenty of french toast to know that it's alright, but it's just a waste of time because I know that I can have something better. Now the large cause for the breakfast debate is pancakes. Pancakes are great, you can put a lot of stuff in them or on them, and they will taste great. I even have pancakes more often than waffles because the majority of my family likes pancakes. Pancakes could be crowned as the breakfast victor, except for one thing stopping them. The butter melts and is absorbed too fast by the pancakes, so by the time you eat them, it's like you didn't even put anything on. The syrup also gets absorbed so fast that I always end up having to dip my pieces into the extra syrup on my plate.
There is nothing more satisfying than having a soft golden buttery and syrupy waffle. Waffles are similar to pancakes, except they are a little sweeter. Waffles hold the syrup so much better than pancakes because of their little pockets. These pockets make the waffles superior because that's where all the flavor is. The only problem with these pockets is putting the butter on, which takes some time. But when you can start eating, everything becomes clear as to why it is the superior breakfast option. The best part is when you get to a pocket that still has a small piece of butter slowly melting, and that piece instantly becomes heaven.
With that, I am breaking the silence of the breakfast battle and coming out with waffles as the victor. There is certainly room for debate, but I don't know how anyone can disagree with waffles. They provide a great start to the weekend after going through a long week of school and work.

  1. I think waffles are a fine weekend breakfast choice, but I hope you're talking about homemade ones- not those frozen imposters!

    1. LOL, yes. You can only do homemade ones. The frozen ones are definitely imposters.

    2. Your opinion is valid, but have you considered Eggos? Like, I am aware that every time I eat one my lifespan is being shortened, but at the same time, Eggo.

  2. I love how disappointed you sound when talking about eggs. Quality content.

  3. Once again JJ, your writing is incredible. The creativity on your blog posts with something as simple as waffles is just spectacular. I love all breakfast foods, but I must agree waffles on a Sunday morning is the way to go!

  4. I agree, waffles are superior over everything else on the weekend. There is nothing like freshly made waffles on a weekend morning!

  5. Waffles are okay, but it really depends how you make them. Some people butcher them, and they end up tasting really weird. Pancakes on the other hand are really hard to get wrong, which is why I have to disagree and say that pancakes are the better breakfast food.

  7. Waffles on a weekend is the way to go. On Christmas morning every year my family has homemade waffles with ice cream and my goodness it is the best thing ever.
