Wherever I End Up, I'll Wait for You - Alicia Gaines

Blood. Too hot, and too cold; too red and too much.

People screaming.

This wasn’t supposed to happen.

Metal on metal.

Heat.

A drum, right next to my ears.

My heart?

My vision was hazy.

I might have closed my eyes, or maybe they just stopped working.

Everything else stopped working too.

“The roads are icy tonight. Make sure you drive carefully.”

Sometimes accidents happen.

“Wouldn’t want to spend our anniversary in the hospital, right?”

The ice was black. The road was black. The bend was sharp.

I’m sorry. I hope you’ll forgive me.

Sometimes, some things are unavoidable.

Maybe fate, maybe bad luck.

I hope I’ll see you again.

Maybe there’s nothing beyond this.

I hope I’ll see you again.

Maybe this is all there is.

I'll find you again anyway.

Maybe this life doesn’t stop here, in mangled metal and mangled limbs.

Shattered glass. Shattered bones.

And maybe, in another life, our story will be kinder.

Shattered heart.

I'll wait for you. Wherever I end up, I'll wait for you.

...

I love you.

  1. Your sentences are short and yet so powerful! You've really mastered the art of repetition. And the formatting - breaks between italicized thoughts and narrative - really well done. I could honestly go on and on about this. Another lovely bittersweet story - keep it up, Alicia!

    1. Sorry I'm just seeing this. I was looking on Genesis and I think that you might have mistaken Catherine's blog post for my own?

  4. Banksy's work weirdly fits with this morbid, kind of beautiful, tale, however, I prefer Banksy's monke work
