Another year, another Superbowl win for Tom Brady. That's sort of how it goes now. It feels like every year, Brady is competing for football's greatest trophy. In only his first year with his new team, Brady ascended the ranks of the NFC and proved he could win anywhere, even without Bill Belichick. Brady and his Buccaneers faced off against the defending Superbowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs, led by 2019 NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes, who was going for his second Superbowl in a row, which would have been the first repeat since 2004-2005, when New England won two in a row. This was also the first time ever that a team won the Superbowl in the same year that there stadium was the venue for the event, with the Superbowl being held in Tampa Bay this year.
In terms of the game itself, Brady and the Bucs put a beating on the defending Superbowl champions, crushing the Chiefs by a score of 31-9 in an all around dominant win for the Buccaneers. Seeing the Bucs as the 2021 Superbowl champions is even more surprising after you see that as early as last year, they had a record of 7-9 and had not made the playoffs since 2007. But, after all the drama surrounding Brady leaving New England after the 2019 season, the Bucs signed him to a 2 year deal to accomplish just this. Along with Brady, other key additions such as Rob Gronkowski, Leonard Fournette, and Antonio Brown helped solidify the Bucs and a serious Superbowl contender before the season began. The Chiefs were favored to win the Superbowl, but after a charge through the NFC in the playoffs, Brady's bunch was able to pull off the slight upset and hand the Bucs there first Superbowl since 2003.
As for Tom Brady, this season and Superbowl victory basically solidifies his position as the GOAT of football. The biggest question heading into the year was whether or not Brady could win without future hall of fame coach Bill Belichick and the Patriots organization he's been with since 2001. His age was also a key factor. However, Brady proved all the doubters wrong again, breaking his own record as being the oldest quarterback to ever win a Superbowl at age 43. With this championship, Brady is now the player with the most Superbowl rings of all time, with 7. For reference, Michael Jordan won 6 NBA Finals and Babe Ruth 7 World Series. An even more spectacular stat, Tom Brady has made the Superbowl 10 of the 21 years he's played, resulting in a 48% chance for him to make the Superbowl any given season. Steph Curry, arguably the greatest 3 point shooter of all time, has a 43% 3-point percentage. In the end, when he does decide to retire, Brady will have the most Superbowl's ever, possibly the most passing yards of any QB in history, and his title as the GOAT safe and sound.
