Revolution, war, and a fight for the crown; all of these were key elements in a foreign competition called “Road to Kingdom”. In it, six groups competed against each other in a series of performances, including both singing and dancing. The main group I will talk about is called The Boyz. Despite the voting system including fans of all the groups, The Boyz were awarded first place for all but one of the six rounds, for a very good reason. Each of their stages had an in-depth plot that revolved around the theme that they chose.
In “Sword of Victory”, a 90-second show to present each team’s individual style and signature, The Boyz show their willingness to work as hard as they can to win. In it, one of the members gets tossed into the air while another member throws a sword up, the former catching it in mid-air before plunging it back into the ground. Compared to the other performances, this was the only one that included props, which really amazed both the hosts and other groups. They showcased their synchronization and talent, earning them first place in the introductory round.
In the “Danger” performance, they established their dominance by showing themselves stealing the crown everyone was fighting for. In “Reveal”, they told of how the crown- and all the power that came with it- was ripped away from them via a revolution, and the fighting that ensued as an aftermath in order to get their power back. In both of these performances, The Boyz ranked first place above the other five groups. Reveal turned out to be especially impressive due to the dangerous stunts they showcased in it.
In the last phase of the competition, each group had to use one of their own songs to perform as the final test. The Boyz chose a song of theirs called “Checkmate”, which has a logical and calculated tone. The performance starts with one of the members falling off of the top of a staircase. This was meant to symbolize how The Boyz had fallen from their first-place lead they had held for so many rounds. However, by the time The Boyz performed this, more votes had been counted, and they were back on the top. The entire theme of this performance was chess, meant to describe how they would lead the metaphorical kingdom if they won the competition. Sure enough, they got first place yet again, and were secured a spot in the sequel show, “Kingdom”.
The first episode of Kingdom actually came out about a week ago, but since it’s the second challenge for The Boyz, the competitors are a lot tougher. One can only hope that their talent can lead them to win this competition as well, and give them a good and honorable reputation in the music industry.
