Who I See As My Hero's

In the past marking period, we have been learning about the hero journey and their path that carried out that journey. I am lucky enough to have many hero's in my life, but a couple really stand out to me, my parents.

My mom immigrated to America at a very young age. She immigrated a few years after birth, following my grandfather's immigration years before. She grew up in a family that worked very hard all the time. She inherited that trait when she would wake up early on the weekends to work so that she could end up saving her money to buy a car in high school. She then went to Rutgers University, then Boston University (where my dad was at the same time without either of them knowing) to study to become a Pediatric Occupational Therapist. She worked extremely hard at this job for a while until she got married. When she got married to my dad, even though she had been an OT, my dad was starting his own business and they decided that she would be manager even though she was already working as an OT. She dropped everything she did as an OT to do a job for her husband which not only shows love and dedication, but also selflessness. Also, in addition to that job, she had 3 kids to take care of. With working long hours and having kids, it is very difficult, but she is very dedicated and a hard worker. I am proud to call this hard working, loving, and selfless women my mother who I look up to for many of her great qualities, making her my hero!

Another hero in my life is my Dad. He was born in America and lived in Connecticut. He lived in a hard working home as well and he would eventually go to Lafayette College, Boston University, and Temple University to become a podiatrist. He did this job over other jobs because he wanted to do something to help others. He could've decided to do another job that wasn't as community oriented, but he decided helping the community is what he wanted to do. After he worked for another company for a few years, he decided that it was a risky move, but something he wanted to do and start his own podiatry practice. Never experiencing owning a business was a little scary, but he was ready for the challenge. Owning the practice meant a lot of work for him and he took on all of that work and still made time for his family. He would work long hours in the early morning and during the day, and come home to his family and spend time with them even though there was a lot of work needed to get done. He also works a lot before vacations because he not only doesn't want to work on relaxing times, but he wants to be able to be with his family during that time instead of being locked in a room working. He not only prioritizes his family like my mom does, but he prioritizes his patients. If something happens to someone and they call him, he immediately answers them. In some situations that are emergencies, he will drive home to see the problem and fix it, even on his vacation time! I am beyond blessed to be able to call this hardworking, selfless, and community loving man my dad and have the ability to look up to a man with so many great qualities that make him my hero!
