With all the free time caused by quarantine and isolation, people are getting creative with filling up hours in the day. Old board games and toys from years back are rising once again in popularity. Games have always been a family-friendly, enjoyable activity that keeps kids entertained for hours. While being at home, parents need these games to get their children off of screens and distracted so they can get their own work done. With the limited opportunities to get out of the house and do things anymore, everybody is going a little stir-crazy. Toys and games are a great, low-cost way to add something new into the day and some excitement into a kids' afternoon.
Why old toys? New toys are created all the time, so why are sales going up in throwbacks like Tonka Trucks, Hot Wheels, Barbies, and Little Tikes instead of all these new toys? The answer might be in all the uncertainty caused by this global pandemic. Nobody knows what the future will look like with the virus and all of its accompanying danger, so people are trying to find comfort wherever they can. One place they are looking is the toys they buy. They remember growing up with these toys, and have good memories attached to them, and they want that feeling back for them and their kids.
I agree with this! Many people are going back to basics and are even turning to old hobbies to keep them busy while at home!
ReplyDeleteI think it is nice that people are going back to the basics and try to do they best they can to keep busy during this time.
ReplyDeleteI think this must be nostalgic for the parents, giving their kids toys they might have used when they were younger.
ReplyDeleteI honestly love how sales for older toys are going up. I think it is probably comforting and a reminder for parents of simpler times.
