A Friday Afternoon - by Kanna Pasunuri

I was sitting in the car, a Friday afternoon, waiting for my dad to quickly run into ShopRite to get some bread for dinner. In those few moments in the car alone, I had reflected on my week. I thought about my first and last week of in-person learning for the year. I thought about how I got to see my teachers in person for the first time in forever, play my flute during band, have a science lab, and best of all talk to my teachers face to face. It was a wonderful feeling being able to see them face to face however there were drawbacks. Some teachers were super picky about kids being six feet apart from each other and not touching or sharing anything (even a pencil). Even though this is completely understandable, I recall being yelled at for lending a pencil to a classmate.

I thought about band class and how playing the flute with a mask was probably the hardest part of my week. I could only get the flute in my mask for a few seconds before either it became too hot under my mask or the cloth fell into the embouchure hole. However, being able to play the flute during band was extremely exciting and definitely out ways the cons.

For haps, the most exciting part of my week was getting a sponsorship for the Debate team. This came to me as the biggest surprise because I never expected a deal. The fact we had a deal made so soon made me feel like I was on shark tank negotiating with an investor. Shark Tank' Team on Inspiring the Next Generation of Entrepreneurs - Variety

The thing that disappointed me the most this week was how we aren't going to have hybrid instruction till January. On top of that, we are not going to start Ski Team until the middle of December. I was very disappointed when I heard about both of these. Once my dad came back he used hand sanitizer and told me to always be careful of what I touch reminding me that there is a pandemic going on and I should appreciate the good moments and move on past the bad.

  1. Appreciating the good moments is the best choice for us right now. I didn't know you played the flute! I do too!

  3. That does seem hard to play the flute with a mask on but being in school definitely felt like it outweighed any con for me.
