Too Much Power by Charlie Sandgran

In this last month the election race has been heating up. The media helps with this by spreading news for all of America to hear. This is both a blessing and a curse. It allows both true and false claims to spread but that is our privilege of freedom of speech.

However in the last couple of weeks there has been a story that has been released involving Hunter Biden who is Joe Biden's son. Someone recovered one of Hunter Biden's laptops which had emails involving some information of what he did overseas. Before anything had been proven true or false this story started to spread on social media including Twitter and Facebook. Twitter and Facebook have fact checkers to try and stop the spread of false news. This story was brand new and nothing was proven about it, but Twitter and Facebook tried to censor it. They made it so no one could spread the story and people who tried got kicked out of their accounts until they deleted the post. They tried to censor the story but by doing so it backfired and it caused attention towards them.

I think that it isn't right how these companies can have so much power that they can control what you say. Although I do think that this will hurt there companies in the future and create room for another company to rise up who won't censor you based on what your views are. I just don't like how they were able to get away with taking away one of America's founding principles in freedom of speech.

  1. I agree. No company or person should be able to censor what someone is saying for it goes against the basic principals of the United States and what the country was founded on. Freedom of speech is one of the most important freedoms we have in America and should never be infringed upon.

  2. The issues with censorship and spreading incorrect facts is huge with many layers. The media is a powerhouse and I wonder if we'll ever just be given correct facts all the time?

  3. No media company should ever censor what the President says whether you like him or no. Twitter needs to allow the freedom of speech they allow to every other twitter user.
