Only If They Agree - Liam Gallagher

With every election, there is some sort of drama surrounding the candidates. This year, though, on top of all of the usual drama, we have seen the social media giants Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram making headlines as they make their mark on this year's election. Reports have surfaced in recent months making claims that these companies have tried to prevent the sharing and spreading of posts surrounding Hunter Biden and his actions in Ukraine. This sparked a national outrage and was picked up by news sources on both sides of the isle who have continued to cover the story being just days from the election.

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey recently made a public apology for the incident claiming the posts were silenced because "personal information was shared". Facebook followed up with comments of their own saying the have limited the story's distribution until it is run through their fact checkers. Instagram also uses this same fact checker system leading many to ask the the question what makes these fact checkers credible or even real, and if they are real what keeps them from letting their personal political allegiances get in the way of doing their job. One also must take into account the huge position of power these companies are in with COVID-19 leaving millions of Americans stuck at home and on their devices more than ever. Considering the ever growing power these companies hold, the hand they have in trying to form the public opinion surrounding election may not only come into question for this election, but every election going forward. This is a question, though, that will probably go unanswered along with many others leaving the public to wonder if posts are spread because tech companies have a fair system in place or if the determining factor is whether or not these companies agree.
