Since when I was a child I always liked to do things fast. Whether that was eating or riding my bike I always had a need for speed. When I was 6 years old my parents took me skiing for the first time. I would not listen to them when they told me to make turns and I kept going straight down the hill. By the time I got to fourth grade my parents couldn't keep up with me so they enrolled me in a ski racing program so that I could learn to ski fast properly. I wasn't to thrilled about having to learn to ski from other people. The first time I saw a race course I told my parents that this is dumb and I just wanna ski with them. However my parents insisted I try it. The minute I started to go down that course everything fell into line. Ever since then Ski Racing has been a crucial part of my life.
Ski Racing has been important to me because it has taught me a lot more than how to ski fast. It has taught me control and to feel the weather. When I am on a course I can feel the breeze of the wind and the condition of the snow. I can control my body to adapt to different snow and wind conditions. Perhaps the most ironic thing is that racing taught me patience. It taught me to calm my mind so that my body can ski fast. Ski Racing has connected me with nature in an age when we spend most of are times at home and on a computer.

That's great! I've never been skiing! Am I too old to try it out? : )
