Have you or a friend ever talked about how great the Star Wars movies were or how they impacted your childhood? People going crazy over the old movies as if it were an entire era for the movie industry. Well this just simply isn't true. The Star Wars movies to this day are nothing special. Here's a simple explanation of the first movie released.
In 1977, we were introduced to episode IV of the Star Wars Saga, the movie titled "A New Hope" by George Lucas and his Lucas Films. The concept of the movie was that there was this galactic empire that ruled the galaxy with an iron fist. The rebellion, who were the good guys, had a goal to try and stop this empire and bring peace and order back to the galaxy. While some concepts are original and unique to this saga, here are some reasons why it's overrated.
To begin with, much of the plot during the first Star Wars movies aren't original. The concept of an evil power in space along with many other inventions such as spaceships, lazer beams, or different planets didn't just appear with the Star Wars movies. One example would be from the original Star Trek movie that came out in 1966, just ten years before the release of the first Star Wars movie. The Star Trek saga introduced many of the concepts listed above that Lucas Films would adopt and use in their Star Wars movies.
The newer Star Wars movies are without a doubt worse than the ones made back in the day. In December of 2015, fans were introduced to the beginning of a new trilogy for Star Wars, with the title being "The Force Awakens". The concept of the movie is fairly similar to episode IV "A New Hope." Throughout the course of the new trilogy we were introduced to many of the original cast. But their roles weren't the same as they were back then. All these previous memories, lessons taught, and the overall plot of the Star Wars universe was completely destroyed with the release of the new trilogy for Star Wars. Childhood heroes no longer had the same values and morals that they use to.
Now a days, Star Wars is owned by Disney and they constantly overflow the market with unwanted Star Wars merchandise. This saga really could have been something special if not for the newer trilogy of Star Wars movies. So at this current time, Star Wars is nothing special and definitely overrated.
Star Wars has made a big comeback with this current generation!
ReplyDeleteI agree, I didn't like Star Wars before it joined the Disney franchise, but since then it's really been run into the ground
ReplyDeleteAs someone who just watched a Star Wars movie for the first time last year, I don't see what the big deal is. I don't really have a childhood connection to the franchise so it doesn't seem that interesting to me. For example, I see it a lot differently than my dad, who saw it when he was little in the theaters.
ReplyDeleteI agree, I never really got into Star Wars. I would definitely say they are good movies, but I don't get all the craze and hype that surrounds them.
