Oatmeal is Better than Cereal
By Austen Frattura
Oatmeal is far superior to cereal. I'm not saying that cereal is bad or that I don't like it because that is not true, but oatmeal is just simply better. First off, cereal is not very filling. One bowl is never enough and it is never tasty enough for me to want more. I am still left a little hungry, which tends to make me angry entering the day. That continued slight hunger may contribute to a bad day. So your breakfast choices do matter. I'm not really into putting fruit on cereal because it's better on the side and I don't understand why someone would want to risk getting milk on their fruits. Fruit is better without contamination from milk in cereal or oatmeal, so just eat it on the side. While this is just my preference for quick breakfast foods, I do regard my opinion in this area to be fact.
The most important reason why oatmeal is better is that it doesn't get soggy. There is nothing worse than soggy cereal, it is gross. I don't know a single person who likes soggy cereal. I never want to eat nasty, soggy cereal because tastes awful. If it becomes soggy, you just have to suck it up and eat every painful spoonful. On the other hand, the worst thing that can happen to your oatmeal is it may get cold. If that occurs, then get up and put it in the microwave and it is good as new.
Some people think that oatmeal takes longer to make and cereal is more convenient. If made correctly, then there is no significant time difference. We all know cereal takes under a minute to prepare, oatmeal takes a maximum of three minutes if you utilize the microwave. I prefer the oatmeal packets (I will usually have 2-3). To make oatmeal, all you have to do is put the oatmeal and water in a bowl and heat it up for the required amount of time and your done. So time really shouldn't be a negative to making oatmeal.
While oatmeal is a superior breakfast food to cereal, eggs and bacon are far better. So I am not arguing that oatmeal is the best breakfast because it is not. Oatmeal is just better than cereal. Also, oatmeal is not meant to be eaten alone and neither is cereal so be sure to have some protein with it and fruit for a well-rounded breakfast. Oatmeal and cereal are both good sources of fiber if they are the healthier varieties and there aren't many nutritional differences between the two. So choose what you want to eat, but remember that oatmeal is better.
I completely agree with you, cereal also grosses me out when it gets soggy and oatmeal is way more satisfying. I don't usually eat breakfast but when I do it is almost always oatmeal.
