The Best Week of my Life- Lilli Wiegand

From the day the trip ends the countdown starts up again. My friends and I countdown the days until our yearly trip to Ling Beach Island together. It's something we look forward to all year, never a day passes by where we don't mention the fun times and how much we can't wait until it's time to go again. We relive the memories of that week thousands of times throughout the course of the year, anxiously waiting to make more the next year. Thinking about that week gets us through the long winter months, and pushes us to finish school in the spring.

The excitement starts the night before where I and my five other friends are going to LBI frantically pack out bags over FaceTime together. We pack like we are going to be gone for a month, having to sit on our suitcases to make sure they close. No one sleeps the night before, everyone is too excited for what the next week has to come. I get up at 6:30, scramble to gather the last minute things together, and rush out the door to get to my friend's house by 7 so we can leave nice and early. Three of us pile in one car, three in the other. The trunks are packed with suitcases, food, beach chairs, everything possible, they barely even close. We jam out to our LBI playlist the whole 3 hour car ride not caring that it's not even 11:00. When we get onto the bridge to get on the island our excitement levels rise even more. We finally make it to the house and rush inside to unpack. We make numerous trips from the car trying to get everything we brought inside. As soon as we're done we get out bikes which are pretty much our only source of transportation all week. On the first day, we meet up with the other five families that are down and just take it all in again.

The rest of the week is like clockwork, especially for the girls. Every day we have our schedule, but each day brings on something new and fun that we never would have expected. We wake up and throw on bathing suits, and then meet up for breakfast at someplace new every day. Then we bike to the beach and set up on our sheet where we lay for 6 hours every day. We tan, play spike ball, go into the ocean. If we are lucky Lester will bring us some shrimp to eat throughout the day. Then pretty much every day for lunch we bike a mile to the island's only Wawa and eat it back at one of our houses. After we are done at the beach we split up and go back to our houses to shower and get ready for the night. Each night of the week a different family hosts dinner, a different theme every night. The best by far is taco Tuesday. After dinner, we go to either Ben & Jerry's or Dairy King to get ice cream then bike to Bay Village where hundreds of kids who are there on vacation gather. We then go back to a house where we just hang out and dance all night. At 12am we'll make our way back to the beach where all the kids just sit and hangouts for what feels like forever. Finally, we'll make our way back to our house at some point and get ready to start the next day all over again. Each year LBI gets better and better, and my friends and I continue to make endless memories, I can't wait for all the upcoming years of going down together.
