Look
in the timeline of your life
Between
ticks of failures, successes, and major events hide
the
marks that show all the little moments that lie between the
Lines
In a world where change is constant and rapid, we have grown accustomed to forgetting everything else when something big comes along. Hyper focused on the larger events, we think of the next big thing and work towards them even if we're not entirely sure what it may be. There is no choice. In such a competitive environment, we are only as much as our accomplishments. There are times where it's easy to get washed away in the constant need to be working towards something or even towards nothing at all. In such instances, we have to remember that we are more than just a list of accomplishments, we are human.
The time between every accomplishment should include breaks to do whatever you think is most important and makes you happiest. Whether that be escaping through art, music, dance, reading, writing, or extracurriculars. Whether it be spending time with friends or family and enjoying the connections you have with them. Whether it be learning more about something you're passionate about or acting to make a difference. There is always something more than just what is shown on your timeline. There is always something meaningful that exists in the in-between moments.
The moments in between can not only bring happiness but also personal growth. If you think back to any major event on your timeline, you will find that you are not the same person that you were before. In the time since past events, there have been smaller, unrecognized moments that have allowed you to grow and change. Without the time in between, you would never be the person you are now and you will never get the chance to become better.
That's why it is so crucial to not ignore the significance of every day. These times of happiness and growth are often more valuable than any award or event could ever be. It's important to remember that the time in between makes up the line, the ticks are just short moments on it.
I love this idea of living in the moment and I completely agree that the most important things in life happen in the in betweens.
ReplyDeleteI think this is great! Not only did you create a poem and then an explanation but you bring up such a great point. Our best memories and moments may not be from the big ones, but from the small things that happen in everyday life!
ReplyDeleteI'm submitting your top poem to the Beginnings literary magazine!
DeleteThis was amazing! I love the flow of the poem into your writing. It is so important to take time an enjoy the moment, be in the present
