Sarah Fuller Becomes a Hero to Young Girls- Aine Byrne

In late November, Sarah Fuller became the first women to plan in a Power-5 collegiate football game. Fuller is the soccer goalie for the women's Vanderbilt soccer team. Due to COVID-19 regulations, all of Vanderbilt's men's football kickers were ineligable to play for the game against Missouri on November 28. The football coach, Clark Lea, went to the soccer team for help, and Sarah stepped up. She ignored her fears of messing up in front of everyone, and pushed through all the pressure of doing something that nobody else has done. She volunteered to help out, and made history. On December 12, she once again made history by being the first woman to score in a Power-5 game. She kicked for 2 extra points against Tennessee, inspiring young girls across the nation. Fuller may not be superhuman, but children are heroizing her just like they would Superman or Captain America. She is showing these kids that they can change the world and to shoot for the stars. I define a hero as someone that inspires others, and Sarah Fuller definitely filled that role with her courageous actions this football season.
