The Pressure of Perfection - Julia Juan

The Pressure of Perfection

We always see Peter Pan and Wonderland

and princes in Disney kiss princess's hands

all the people in stories and acts on tv

who don't have to live in this reality

Some think to themselves every day every night

does “perfect” exist where everything’s alright

can we live life without having “perfect” in sight

they constantly hope that they will reach starlight

We scroll on our phones and see influencers

the thought “you’re not good enough” always recurs

we all follow the crowds and do what's expected

there is no other way to be accepted

Some hope to themselves every day every night

for a world where no choice can be wrong nor right

they can do what they want without judgment on sight

and they wish for freedom somewhere in starlight

So they chase Wonderland and beg Peter Pan

please save me from this world please come take my hand

can we fly off to go and meet the mad-hatter

Wwe can do what we want where nothing matters

They wish to the stars every day every night

please take me to a world where all is alright

please take me to a world where there's freedom in sight

always yearning for the day they reach starlight

  8. Very well written. I like how you combined two things (Disney and idea of perfection) and contrasted them. It was easy to understand yet sophisticated. The poem had a great flow to it. Great Job!

  9. This is so relatable. I hate feeling insecure, and lonely, and I feel like nobody super famous ever talks about it. Perfection is just a made up concept, and we are all beautiful in our own special ways.
