Is life as a twin really "double the fun" or does it cause "double the trouble"? I have firsthand experience with these cliques as I have a twin brother or as he may say, I am a twin sister. Being a twin definitely has some benefits that only twins can truly relate to. Some refer to this as "twin power" but with power comes compromise and so there are indeed negatives that result from being a multiple.
A birthday is a special day when family and friends celebrate YOU. The look to satisfy your every wish. As a twin, I have to share the day. For example, Jack and I have to agree on the same cake, the same birthday dinner menu, and how we wish to spend the day because our family wants to celebrate with each of us. Now let me tell you agreeing on the same dinner is brutal due to the fact that Jack is a carnivore and loves a hearty steak dinner and I am satisfied with a light seafood or vegetarian meal. However, birthdays can sometimes run in our favor especially because my mom looks to celebrate us as individuals as best as she can. Our celebration can last over days with multiple cakes, dinners, and of course many rounds of "Happy Birthday" being sung to us.
Being a twin in school lends itself to benefits and challenges. My parents used to request us to be in different classes until middle school so that there would only be one team of teachers to know and because my Mom would be nervous about meeting all of the teachers at Back to School Night. It is beneficial to have a twin brother to bring home your materials when you are home sick and to study with. Jack is a genius when it comes to math and he is a year ahead of me so when I have a question, Jack is there to assist me. In fact, he is the first one who offers to help me. We quiz each other and learn from each other in other subject areas but have different work habits. This difference can help us like I said but it can be troublesome. My twin brother is competitive when it comes to school and our approach to assignments is very different. I am more laid back, but I still have a good work ethic and like to get things done efficiently whereas Jack is a bit more high maintenance. Jack takes school very seriously so he is always nagging me about my grades, which can get annoying at times but I guess that when I play my loud music while studying, it nags him too.
Even though Jack and I are twins and have many similarities, we both have different personalities and sometimes travel a different path in order to accomplish our goals. We have similar perspectives about the world and share similar experiences because we were raised in the same household. We took our first steps together, experienced the same family vacations and important milestones together. Our parents taught us how to treat people with respect and how to use our manners while living our lives. We have the same core values. I would say having a twin brother is pretty good but if we have to share a car then I'm out!!!!!!!!!
This was beautifully written! You did an excellent job of showing how it feels to have a twin :)
ReplyDeleteI love that you chose this topic because not many of us can relate, but we all wonder about it! Your last line about the car cracked me up!
ReplyDeleteI like how you pointed out the positives and negative of having a twin; it helps others understand!
ReplyDeleteThis was really well written, and I think it really describes what life as a twin, triplet, quadruplet, etc., is really like. I found this really relatable, especially the part about having to agree on and share the same birthday cake and birthday dinner! :)
ReplyDeleteI can relate so much! My brother and I are almost exactly like that. It's a good description as life as a twin. Well done :)
ReplyDeleteIt helps people who don't have twins understand what it is like. I like that included both side, positive and negative.

ReplyDeleteI really liked reading this because it reminded me of my older triplet brothers who deal with the same problems. The last line about the car was funny and my brothers share a car and it's always an argument.
ReplyDeleteI really liked reading this because it really describes what it is like being a twin and can give people who aren't an inside of what its like.
ReplyDeleteThis was so interesting! I always thought being a twin was so cool, but this piece opened my mind to some of the negatives that being a twin can have.
