The Inside Scoop on Distanced Learning
By. Catherine Gaines
This past year has been a difficult time for many. For those of us still going to school, we have had to face our own set of challenges. Adapting to virtual learning has proved quite a feat. The first few weeks back in March were trying. Questions of when we were going back to the classroom, and if we were going back to school weighed heavily on our minds. We were unprepared, confused, and without a plan due to the sudden change. But now entering into the 2021-2022 school year we have grown accustomed to the changes and adapted to virtual learning and are preparing to complete part of the year, if not all of it virtually.
Virtual learning so far has been very interesting. We are doing the same things outside of school that we would have been doing in school with only slight modifications. We've received textbooks and papers from the school and we are trying our hardest to cover our material at the regular learning pace. But there are some difficulties. With everyone on the internet, class meetings get so overwhelmed that students and teachers alike get kicked off of the server. We miss vital parts of instruction and class time dealing with wifi issues and bad connections. But with each problem we face, we learn from it and move towards a more efficient version of distanced learning. I personally feel like I learn better in a classroom, but with the situation at hand in order to keep everyone safe, we have to face the challenges of distanced learning. Challenges that we are overcoming and growing from everyday.
Not all aspects of distanced learning are bad. Students are now able to get the proper amount of sleep that they need to be healthy. School now starts at 8 A.M, compared to last year's 7:22 A.M, and on top of pushing the start of classes back, we don't have to wake up early to take the bus, ride all the way to school, and then spend an extra 20 minutes in the school cafeteria waiting for classes to start. Now we are in our own homes and use most of the extra time to catch some much-needed sleep, finish up homework, and do some last-minute studying before classes start. There are both good and bad aspects of distanced learning but we are all doing the best that we can to the best of our abilities and making it work.
I agree! Virtual learning is hard, but we're all doing our very best to make it as easy as possible for everybody around us!
ReplyDeleteI like that you have some positive viewpoints on the situation. I know all the students are thankful for more time to sleep !
ReplyDeleteI've definitely been taking advantage of the opportunity to sleep more! That aside, I appreciate how you ended on a positive note. I feel like that's the best way to try to get through the world, especially nowadays.
ReplyDeleteThe extra time for sleeping is defiantly something I am grateful for. I like how you have a positive outlook on a negative situation!
