The Abnormal School Year by Dillon Caswell

This school year has been very different than before. I've never had to wake up this early in the morning for the past 6 months so I got used to sleeping in. Virtual classes last year were easier because you only had 1 or 2 virtual sessions a day. The classes last year were not very long because we only got 45 minutes of work per class. At this rate, I was able to be done with all of my work by 2:00 for the day. This year is a lot more difficult because the internet is so slow and it takes a few minutes for everything to load. This didn't happen last year because my siblings were on at different times so the internet was not being used at the same time, all the time. I hope that we are able to go back into the school because I want to be able to see my friends every day, and be able to meet my teachers in person instead of through a computer screen. The quality of learning that is going on is still pretty bad considering the fact that there are plenty of technical difficulties, making the class time shorter for learning and making the teachers rush and sometimes things not understandable. Another issue is that tests are hard to finish because of the fact that the teachers will move on after a certain time even if you aren't finished. In school, they would see that you aren't finished and they would wait, but now they don't wait and they move on quickly. I don't think that we will go back this year, but I am hoping to be able to go in school in early 2021!

  1. This is certainly a rough start to the year, but I hope it will continue to get better!

  2. It is just so crazy. When we first switched to online last year I remember thinking that by summer it would all be fine. Then, summer came and it was still not back to normal. Then, in summer, I thought for sure we would go back to school. However, here we are, still going to school online. I totally agree with everything you said too. Not being able to see friends is tough and technical difficulties definitely impact our learning experience.

  3. I get what you're saying. This year has been so different, even in comparison to online school last year! Everybody is having connectivity issues and at times it's really frustrating, so hopefully, we can go back to school in 2021!

  4. I completely agree with you. School definitely isn't the same as it used to be, and I struggle with getting up so early too!

  5. Your spot on. Classes this year are definitely way too long and I'm finishing work way later than I did in the spring.

  7. I agree with you, online is pretty frustrating and the classes are pretty long. Although I think I would rather only have 4 classes a day instead of all 8 of our classes everyday.
